Sulfurzyme Capsules or Powder: Which one is right for you?

Updated: Oct 6

Let’s talk about Sulfurzyme!! We have two unique Sulfurzyme products: a capsule and a powder. Personally, I use the powder and add it to my Red Drink a few times a day. I will explain what makes each one unique at the end. Both are great and feed every cell!!

Remember >>> the goal is to get all your nutrients from various healthy whole foods. We are running a challenge later this month on eating from the rainbow, and I hope you will join us!!

All the nutrients I am discussing today come in the foods we should be eating!! A supplement like Sulfurzyme fills in the missing pieces you are not getting in your foods. It's time to break them down!

The primary ingredient in Sulfurzyme is Methylsulfonylmethane.

  • Methylsulfonylmethane (MSM) is a simple, organic sulfur compound known as dimethylsulfone, methylsulfone, crystalline dimethyl sulfoxide, sulfonyl bis methane, or organic sulfur. We will refer to it as MSM or sulfur for the rest of this article.

  • MSM is naturally found in algae, plants, and animals. You probably consume it daily. It is naturally present in a variety of foods such as eggs, meat, poultry, fish, legumes, wheat germ, garlic, onions, apples, tomatoes, raspberries, Brussels sprouts, milk, Swiss chard, asparagus, kale, corn, cabbage, broccoli, alfalfa sprouts, garlic, beets, and even in things like coffee, tea, and beer!

  • Sulfur is the third most abundant mineral in your body. It is present in methionine and cysteine, two of the amino acids you use to make proteins. Both amino acids are present in your skin, hair, and nails, and they help to make these tissues strong and flexible.

  • Sulfur, or MSM, is primarily used in the body to build proteins, particularly those that create hair, skin, and muscles. It also helps with DNA repair, cell protection, and proper metabolism by acting as a component of essential amino acids like methionine and cysteine; it also contributes to the health of bones, teeth, and connective tissues by being part of collagen.

  • Your body needs sulfur to build and fix your DNA and protect your cells from damage that can lead to severe diseases like cancer. Sulfur also helps your body metabolize food and contributes to the health of your skin, tendons, and ligaments. The two amino acids that include sulfur are methionine and cysteine.

Sulfur compounds from food help your heart, veins, and arteries in several ways, including:

  • Hydrogen sulfide, a sulfur compound, helps maintain normal blood flow and supports healthy cardiovascular function.

  • Sulfur compounds like allicin in garlic help blood vessels relax. This improves blood flow, which reduces the amount of work the heart has to do to pump blood throughout the body—resulting in healthy blood pressure.

  • Wonderful for your healthy blood vessels.

  • They support your natural inflammatory response.

  • Sulfur produces a gaseous signaling molecule that regulates cardiovascular function and protects against heart failure, arrhythmias, and other cardiovascular pathologies. Hydrogen sulfide can also regulate vascular tone and oxidant defenses and modulate metabolic syndrome.

  • Cysteine & glutathione sulfur-containing amino acids that support your heart and cardiovascular system.

  • Supports the heart by reducing inflammation and improving insulin sensitivity:

  • Reduces the expression of interleukin-6 (IL-6), a protein associated with cardiovascular disease and type 2 diabetes.

  • Supports healthy insulin sensitivity and glucose tolerance.

  • Supports healthy cholesterol levels.

Key points about sulfur and the rest of your body:

  • If you have pain, MSM is the nutrient your body is crying out for!!! If it ends in “itis,” MSM will help >>> nerves, bones, muscles, tissue #allthethings you must eat that rainbow! Not sure what “itis” is??? Think arthritis, diverticulitis, colitis, cystitis, dermatitis, carditis, and so on.

  • MSM may help decrease joint degeneration! YES, all joints, including knees, spine, wrist, shoulders, and fingers.

  • MSM is useful for treating leaky gut syndrome because it can help prevent particles from leaching out of the gut through small junction openings, which can enter the bloodstream and ignite an inflammatory response.

  • Sulfur compounds, such as glutathione, cysteine, and taurine, can help protect the lungs from oxidant-induced damage. These compounds can act as antioxidants and scavenge oxidants, leading to lung diseases like asthma, emphysema, and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).

  • By reducing inflammation, MSM may help reduce allergy-related symptoms, including coughing, shortness of breath, congestion, sneezing, and fatigue.

  • Studies have shown that naturally occurring sulfur can shrink cancer cells and increase apoptosis. For my fellow research nerds, copy and paste this link. AMAZING cancer studies. https://ar.iiarjournals.org/content/40/4/1905

  • Sulfur is important for maintaining healthy skin and hair due to its role in protein structure. These sulfur-containing amino acids are particularly important in the protein keratin, the main structural component of skin, hair, and nails.

  • Sulfur is involved in producing glutathione, a powerful antioxidant that protects cells from damage.

  • Sulfur is involved in DNA repair mechanisms, helping to protect against genetic damage and aging.

  • Some enzymes require sulfur for proper function. Gary named our product SulfurZYME >>> because many enzymes will not function correctly without MSM.

  • MSM and vitamin C together support joint health and collagen formation. MSM is known as a natural beauty mineral, and combining it with vitamin C may help enhance absorption and promote antioxidant benefits. Notice that eating from the rainbow will supply MSM and vitamin C together!!! So important to get all the puzzle pieces!

The second ingredient in Sulfurzyme is Ningxia wolfberry (Lycium barbarum) fruit powder

Just a little nutritional background on our NingXia Wolfberries:

We don’t just call and order Goji berries from any warehouse. Our Seed to Seal process includes where we source things like our wolfberries. Location is everything!!!! Of the eighty species of wolfberries worldwide, the Lycium barbarum from Ningxia has the highest levels of immune-balancing polysaccharides.

NingXia Wolfberries are a tremendous antioxidant >>> ORAC (Oxygen Radical Absorbance Capacity Scale) measures the antioxidants' ability to absorb oxygen “free radicals.” ORAC is a universal way of measuring the antioxidant ability of foods. NingXia Wolfberries have been rated with an amazing ORAC score of 3,472 ORAC units per fluid ounce or 100 grams of more than 12,000!! >>> As a reference point, 100 grams or 3 ½ ounces eggplant registers as 390, grapefruit 483, brussels sprouts 980 & ORAC are Vitamin E oil at 3,309

NingXia Wolfberries have so many amazing benefits. I just want to share a few!!

They increase clarity and energy because they naturally contain betaine, which is then converted to choline—an “essential nutrient.”

  • Choline is labeled an essential nutrient because it is required for normal body functioning. It cannot be synthesized by the body at all or in amounts adequate for good health, and thus, it must be obtained from a dietary source, such as goji berries.

  • Choline is usually grouped with the Vitamin B complex and is essential for cell membranes and neurotransmission.

  • Choline is required to produce acetylcholine, an important neurotransmitter regulating memory, mood, and intelligence.

  • It's also needed for synthesizing DNA, which is important for brain function and development.

  • Choline is an essential nutrient supporting lipid metabolism and liver health.

  • Your liver produces some choline, but most of the choline your body needs will come from your food.

  • Choline helps your brain and central nervous system control memory and mood.

  • It supports the correct functioning of your liver and muscles.

  • Choline helps your cells form and repair their membranes.

  • It helps your lipids break down and convert into energy.

Wolfberries contain important nutrients and antioxidants, supporting healthy immune function and vision. Those bright red wolfberries are packed with Lutein & Zeaxanthin

  • Your sweet little eyeballs love Lutein & Zeaxanthin. The research is in, and it is positive your eyes function and remain healthy with all that beautiful Lutein & Zeaxanthin

Wolfberries are amazing for your heart. All those beautiful red nutrients!!

  • They support your healthy cardiovascular function!!

  • Amazing for healthy cholesterol

  • They keep your eyes, veins, and arteries strong and healthy.

  • Wonderful for your healthy inflammatory response.

  • Support your healthy immune function.

NingXia Wolfberries are extremely high in vitamins and minerals!!

Vitamin C: Just 100g of dried wolfberries contain more than twice the recommended daily dose of vitamin C, three times as much as oranges. Vitamin C is vital for immune-enhancing properties as it fuels the white blood cells' ability to attack pathogens in the body.

Vitamins B1 and B3 (Thiamin and Niacin): Ningxia Wolfberries contain 67 times the amount of thiamin in brown rice! The Ningxia wolfberry is the richest known whole food source of natural thiamin. Thiamin is essential for energy production, carbohydrate metabolism, and thyroid function. Ningxia Wolfberry also has 100 times the Niacin as oat bran and two times that of baker's yeast. Niacin is well known for its heart support.

Calcium: The Ningxia Wolfberry has more calcium than spinach, walnuts, or cottage cheese and five times the amount of calcium as cauliflower. It is also more bioavailable than calcium from an animal source (dairy).

Magnesium: 100g of dried Ningxia wolfberries contains 325% of the recommended daily allowance for magnesium.

Potassium: The Ningxia Wolfberry has four times the amount of potassium as bananas and more potassium than dried apricots, sunflower seeds, almonds, or figs. Potassium is the single most important mineral for human health and longevity, essential for normal electrolyte and pH balance within the cell. Potassium alone or combined with magnesium reduces systolic and diastolic blood pressure.

Chromium: chromium is part of the glucose tolerance factor. It enhances insulin sensitivity and makes glucose entering the cell easier. The Ningxia Wolfberry has 65% of the recommended daily allowance for chromium

.Zinc: Zinc plays an essential role in the immune system, as it helps produce natural killer cells and enhances the pathogen-killing abilities of macrophages (a type of white blood cell). The Ningxia wolfberry has more zinc than turkey, wild rice, eggs, lime beans, or asparagus.

The Ningxia Wolfberry is a protein powerhouse: it contains over 15.6% protein by weight, more protein than bee pollen, and 18 amino acids! It’s rich in the amino acids L-arginine and L-glutamine. The Ningxia Wolfberry contains almost 1% of the amino acid L-arginine by weight, more than any other food! L-arginine helps reduce blood pressure, stimulates growth hormones, and improves circulation to combat diabetes and boost immunity. The Ningxia Wolfberry has more l-arginine than shiitake mushrooms, cottage cheese, barley, yogurt, spinach, or dates.

Wolfberries also contain 1.4% of the amino acid L-leucine and significant amounts of tyrosine, a key building block of dopamine production. Dopamine is an essential neurotransmitter in the brain that decreases with age.

With one of the highest percentages of fiber of any whole food, the Ningxia wolfberry has over 21% of fiber by weight. It has more fiber than oat bran and doubles the fiber of buckwheat. High fiber intake is directly correlated with a lowered risk of cancer, lowered blood pressure, better control of blood sugar levels, lowered risk of heart disease, and improved cardiovascular health.

The Ningxia Wolfberry is more than just a whole-food multivitamin; it also contains a virtual cornucopia of exotic and unique phytonutrients that have been shown to protect the liver, eyes, heart, and cellular DNA from age-related deterioration and disease. It also contains powerful immune-boosting compounds known as Lycium polysaccharides, a distant relative of the unusual long-chain sugars found in Echinacea purpurea, maitake mushrooms, and other immune-building herbs.

Ningxia wolfberries are rich in a broad spectrum of carotene-like substances known as carotenoids. Beta carotene is only one member of this family of nutrients. Ningxia Wolfberries contain alpha-carotene, beta-carotene, lutein, zeaxanthin, and Beta-cryptoxanthin. These have been shown to protect against skin cancers and eye problems such as age-related macular degeneration, the most common cause of blindness in older people. A Harvard study has shown that Beta-cryptoxanthin inhibits cancer, stimulates bone growth, and was linked to an 18% reduced incidence of glaucoma. Zeaxanthin is a pigment concentrated in the eye, and lower levels of zeaxanthin are linked to age-related blindness.

Wolfberries contain a highly bioavailable zeaxanthin known as zeaxanthin dipalmitate. Zeaxanthin dipalmitate has been shown to protect against eye diseases and liver damage.

According to a July 2001 analysis at Brunswick Labs, the Ningxia Wolfberry contains 86 mg of ellagic acid and 1309 mg of phenolics per 100g, one of the highest of any foods tested.

In 1998, Korean researchers discovered special compounds in wolfberry payrolls and cerebrosides. These nutrients have been shown to protect the liver against chemical-induced hepatitis damage.

The Ningxia Wolfberry also ranks highest in its content of a unique protein-sugar complex known as Lycium polysaccharide. This low-glycemic polysaccharide is only found in Lycium Barbaricum and, to a lesser extent, in Lyceum Chinese. Several studies have documented the Wolfberry polysaccharide's cardioprotective, anti-cancerous, and immune-stimulating properties. According to studies, it may also lower blood sugar levels, reduce glycated hemoglobin, and protect the pancreas.

In addition, the Ningxia Wolfberry has been shown to have one of the lowest glycemic indexes of any food. Clinical studies have shown that it has a glycemic index of only 29, less than green beans' at 30. The whole berry is so full of goodness! Eat the skin, seeds, and pulp—all good things!!

I'm just saying!!! >>> Do you see why we must eat from that beautiful rainbow of colors? Each vegetable, fruit, nut, and seed has so many unique parts and pieces. Even the same fruit grown in two different places will have a unique nutrient profile that will fill your cells!

Love that Young Living uses such amazing ingredients!!!

One more ingredient in the Sulfurzyme Powder is not found in the capsules. Again, both are great and have everything I just mentioned. The powder also has Fructooligosaccharides (FOS)

  • FOS are plant sugars used as prebiotics and as an alternative sweetener. Their sweetness level is 30–50% that of sugar, and they are calorie-free.

  • Prebiotics FOS are a prebiotic type, meaning they feed good bacteria in the colon. They are not digested in the small intestine but instead reach the colon, where they are metabolized by good bacteria. This helps the good bacteria grow.

  • Like most things from Young Living, Fructooligosaccharides are found in many fruits and vegetables, including onions, garlic, chicory, asparagus, bananas, and artichokes.

  • FOS can also improve mineral absorption, support healthy cholesterol levels, and support healthy glucose metabolism.

Fructooligosaccharides (FOS) found in nature in real foods:

  • Help relieve constipation and improve the balance of intestinal flora.

  • They can also suppress the production of intestinal putrefactive (the process by which bacteria in the large intestine break down undigested proteins, which can produce harmful metabolites.)

  • They increase good bacteria, such as bifidobacterium, which is predominant.

  • Improves mineral absorption in the gut.

  • Support healthy cholesterol levels.

  • Help to support healthy blood sugar.

  • Supports a strong, healthy immune system.

  • Wonderful for your metabolism & normal inflammatory response.

For me, it is a no-brainer! I eat a wide variety of foods every day. Like a rainbow on my plate & I add and I use multiple whole-food supplements to fill in my puzzle pieces. Sulfurzyme is a must-have!

Suggested Uses for Powder

  1. Mix ½ tsp. with juice or distilled water and take twice daily.

  2. Best taken 1 hour before or after meals.

Suggested Uses for Capsules

  1. Take 2 capsules 2 times daily or as needed

  2. Best taken 1 hour before or after meals.

Here is the thing: I never remember to take my Sulfurzyme an hour before or after a meal. I just don't. I know that in nature, I would find each ingredient in food. I add my Sulfurzyme Powder to my red drink two to three times daily and my PM drink before bed. I use two teaspoons in each glass. If I have "stuff" happening. I will increase it to about 10 servings. a day.

YOU do you!!!

Do you already use Sulfurzyme? How do you take it? Are you going to add it to your list of missing puzzle pieces?
